From 1999 to 2020 JS hosted a national conference call for new and veteran political activists. You can listen to past conference calls below.
Salit interviewed Rep. John Delaney about the Open Our Democracy bill, a bill which Delaney introduced which would enact Top Two nonpartisan primaries for all congressional elections in the United States, make Election Day a national holiday and would enacting national standards for congressional redistricting.
Salit: In spite of our numbers, independents are still pushed to the margins, a serious issue for the country. Cracks in democracy are becoming more serious because so many people are saying there has to be a better way. We are a movement in search of a better way.
Salit shared thoughts about the upcoming National Conference of Independents, “Partnerships for Independent Power” with close to 200 activists.
“We’ve designed the conference to bring some people together who don’t usually talk to one another and want to try to shape those discussions and conversations in a way that can take us to new ground.”
